Hey there! I’m Kenya, I am the Founder and President of USI. I am a former/future Oakland University student. After completing high school in 2023, I experienced my Freshmen year at Oakland University. I chose Oakland because it offered great programs to students, tutoring and fun interactive events to boost student activity. Little did I know, tuition would almost cost the price of an arm and a leg.

At the moment, I am financially independent and have a household that renders my qualifications for proper aid. This ultimately affected my studies causing me to drown in undeniable debt having not been given a reasonable amount of aid. After enduring two jobs and two failed classes, a broken foot, a broken ankle and $3,000 worth of tuition fees out of pocket, I was financially forced to drop out of school.

Being ambitious, I decided to come up with an impactful plan in order to grow my graphic design portfolio, raise tuition funds and solve a common issue within Michigan's higher education systems. To my surprise, I decided to host a Tuition Fundraiser on my birthday that can not only help me, but also impact other likeminded students in Michigan. Therefore, I came up with Walk For Success to emphasize the patience it takes to get to another level. Supporting the debut of University Scholars NonProfit.

Nonetheless, Walk For Success is ultimately the debut for University Scholars Initiative official nonprofit 501(c)3. To introduce the company, I thought it’d be best to sponsor myself as the first student, host a networking event and collaborate with surrounding businesses. This event will be the kickstart to a long-term growing corporation.

To close, University Scholars Initiative (USI), was made to financially support ambitious University Freshmen and Sophomore students in Michigan. Educate students about the benefits of higher education, provide scholarships for tuition and book supplies, including promoting positive student participation. Lastly, motivating other students to pursue their dreams.
